Service Description;
The alarm was raised tonight when a fishing boat
contacted the Coastguard and reported that the boat
was in danger of sinking in the vicinity of Troon
Harbour.
Troon RNLI All Weather Lifeboat was requested to
assist and on arrival at the Lifeboat Station it
became apparent that the MFV OCEANA was already
alongside in Troon and that a Unit from Strathclyde
Fire &Rescue was in attendance.
The ‘salvage pump’ from the ALB was taken by road to
the casualty and crew members started a pumping
operation on the fishing boat which was hold below
the waterline after an incident while leaving
harbour.
The crew managed to pump the majority of the water
from the vessel and so ensure stability and maintain
that level for several hours. At 03:15 suitable,
long term, pumping equipment was activated at the
scene and the crew and salvage pump were returned to
station and made ready for service.
The safe and speedy launch and recovery of both RNLI
Lifeboats was ably assisted by members of the RNLI
Lifeboats Shore Crew.
