Service Description;

The alarm was raised this morning by Ayr Police reporting that a woman was in distress in the vicinity of Ayr Harbour.

Troon RNLI Lifeboats were requested to launch by the Coastguard and investigate the report.  At arrival on scene both RNLI Lifeboats were requested to assist in the search, joining Police, a Strathclyde Police  helicopter and local Coastguard teams.  The ILB launched and conducted a search of the river between the old and new brigs, the ALB searched the deeper water of the harbour and its approaches.

After an hour and a half of searching Ayr Harbour, the river and the surrounding areas, nothing was found and the lifeboats were 'stood down' by the coastguard in the knowledge that the area had been searched thoroughly, and returned to Troon Lifeboat Station.

“This call, although reported as a ‘false alarm, with good intention.” was treated in the same professional manner and response as all other calls made to any RNLI Lifeboat.”

The safe and speedy launch and recovery of both RNLI Lifeboats was ably assisted by members of the RNLI Lifeboats Shore Crew.
