Service Description;

The alarm was raised this evening after the Ardrossan Coastguard Mobile Unit on a routine patrol were informed that a person had been seen on the Southern end of the beach heading towards the water.

Troon RNLI Lifeboats were requested to launch by Clyde Coastguard and investigate the sighting. At arrival on scene both RNLI Lifeboats were requested to assist in the search joining Police, Strathclyde Air Support Unit and local Coastguard teams. The ALB launched the ‘XP’ boat and crew for a shallow water search of the area.

After one and a half hours of searching Ardrossan South Beach and the surrounding areas, nothing was found and the lifeboats were ‘stood down’ by the Coastguard. The ‘XP’ boat was recovered by the ALB and both RNLI Lifeboats returned to Troon Lifeboat Station.

“This call, although reported as a ‘false alarm, with good intention.” was treated in the same professional manner and response as all other calls made to any RNLI Lifeboat.”

The safe and speedy launch and recovery of both RNLI Lifeboats was ably assisted by members of the RNLI Lifeboats Shore Crew.
